Developmental Psychology

My Ph.D. research longitudinally examines how emotion-related processes are associated with the development of socially relevant emotions and behaviours in children. My main focus is on how children's parasympathetic nervous system activity and emotion recognition are involved in the development of sympathy, prosocial behaviours, and aggression. The goal of this research is to further understand why some children develop more kindness and inhibit aggression, while others do not. This information can hopefully be used to inform the creation of more effective and tailored early interventions
